As pet owners, we are constantly looking for the best ways to pamper our furry companions, including selecting the perfect treats. Two methods that have gained popularity in the pet treat industry are freeze-drying and air-drying. But what sets these processes apart, and how does it impact the treats we offer our pets? Here’s a quick guide so that the next time you go shopping, you know what’s best for your furbaby.
Freeze-Dried Treats:
Freeze-drying is a low-temperature dehydration process that involves freezing the raw ingredients and then removing the ice crystals through sublimation. This method preserves the treats, locking in the natural flavors, nutrients, and aroma. So technically, you are feeding your pet treats in the “freshest” state- raw!
One of the key advantages of freeze-dried treats is the exceptional retention of nutrients. The low temperatures used in the process ensure that the treats maintain their original nutritional content.
Freeze-dried treats are known for their lightweight and crispy texture. The absence of moisture results in a satisfying crunch that pets love. This makes it easy to carry as well. Freeze-drying also allows for a wide variety of ingredients to be transformed into treats. Whether it's beef liver, fruits, or vegetables, this method preserves the essence of each ingredient, offering a diverse range of flavors for pets. One example is Dr. Floof’s Freeze-Dried Treat. It comes in a combination of duck and pumpkin, so every bite gives the benefits of the protein source and the vegetable source. Finally, freeze-dried treats are known to be gentle on tummies, which makes them ideal for those with digestive issues.
These treats should be kept in a cool, dry place in an airtight container. Since these treats are technically raw, it is important to always seal the bag very well every time one gets a treat, because exposure to moisture can affect quality of the treat. Remember, freeze-dried treats are still technically considered raw.
Air-Dried Treats:
Air-drying involves gently removing moisture from the raw ingredients using natural airflow. This method takes advantage of a controlled environment to gradually dehydrate the treats.
Similar to freeze-drying, air-drying is a process that prioritizes nutrient preservation. The slow and gentle dehydration ensures that the treats maintain their nutritional integrity, however, as there is more heat involved, the nutrients preserved aren’t as complete compared to freeze-dried treats.
Air-dried treats often have a chewy texture that appeals to pets who enjoy a more substantial snack. The slightly softer consistency makes them an excellent option for pets with dental concerns or older/more senior pets. Since the treats are more “jerky” like, they can be easily teared off, making them ideal for training as well, such as Dr. Floof’s Air-Dried Soft Duck Slices. Many air-dried treats are made with a limited number of ingredients, making them an ideal choice for pets with dietary sensitivities or allergies.
While these treats should also be kept in a cool, dried place in an air-tight container, they aren’t as sensitive to moisture exposure.
When it comes to freeze-dried vs. air-dried treats, the choice ultimately depends on your pet's preferences and dietary needs. If you're looking for a lightweight, crunchy option with a diverse range of flavors, freeze-dried treats might be the way to go. On the other hand, if your pet enjoys a chewier texture and you prefer treats with a limited ingredient list, air-dried treats could be the perfect match.
Both freeze-dried and air-dried treats offer a natural and nutritious alternative to traditional pet treats, elevating snack time to a whole new level. Whichever you choose, you can be confident that you're providing your furry friend with a wholesome and delicious reward that reflects the care and love they deserve.

]]>Rice and hair care seem to have a long history together. It was said that Japanese women would wash their hair with rice milk/ water to strengthen strands and spritz it on their faces to keep it moisturized without any adverse effects. It’s no surprise then that the Fetch! Team decided it was about time to explore how we could use this quintessential Pinoy ingredient in our care products.
Not sure about the power of rice? No worries, here are some reasons why adding rice milk into your furbabies’ routine (and let’s be real, yours too) is beneficial for healthy skin and hair.
1. Hydration
Rice milk contains essential nutrients like vitamins B and E, as well as antioxidants. These components provide deep hydration to the skin and fur, helping to maintain moisture balance and prevent dryness or flakiness.
2. Gentle Cleansing
Rice milk possesses natural cleansing properties. When used, they can help remove dirt, oils, and impurities from the fur without causing irritation. This makes them an excellent alternative for pets with sensitive skin that may react to harsh chemicals found in some commercial products. Rice milk is also known to help clear out build-up on skin and scalp caused by other shampoos, conditioners, and other add-on products.
3. Soothes Inflammation
The soothing nature of rice milk and water can help alleviate itchiness and inflammation in pets with skin conditions such as allergies or irritations. This is especially beneficial for pets prone to scratching and discomfort.
4. Healthy Hair
Rice milk contains starch, amino acids, minerals, and vitamins such as B9 that support hair growth and strengthen the coat. These nutrients help to keep strands shiny, smooth, and healthy.
Incorporating natural remedies like rice milk into your pet's grooming routine can benefit their skin and fur health. With a rich history of usage in cultures like Japan, the nourishing properties of rice milk have stood the test of time. It's no surprise then that a lot of humans use this powerful ingredient in their hair care routine and pet owners usually love the power of rice when caring for puppies, kittens, and senior pets.
Pets can make for great company. Studies have shown that interacting with animals alone has psychological benefits, such as decreasing a stress-related hormone called cortisol. But owning a pet is a serious commitment, which includes ensuring your and the animal’s safety.
Georgianna Carlos’ premium pet care brand, Fetch! Naturals, is helping to ease the minds of pet parents in this area with products made from natural ingredients. The brand’s latest releases veer away from using toxic chemicals that, when ingested or licked by pets, can be harmful to their health.
“I realised that pet care owners were not just looking for natural products to use on their pets, but also for everyday products that they can use that are safe for all members of their family,” says Carlos.
Today, Carlos tells us even more about her holistic new products and how she plans to change the landscape for every member of the family.

Can you introduce the lick-safe products in one sentence?
Georgianna Carlos (GC): Fetch! Naturals make premium, natural products that are safe for animals, humans and the environment.
What is the brand’s value proposition?
GC: We make premium natural products using unique, local produce as our main ingredients. When we launched, we made Neem popular in the local pet care scene with not just shampoos but also house cleaners and deodorisers. We were also the first to market Jicama (Singkamas) shampoos as a natural brightener for light-coloured dogs and molasses (derived from sugar cane) for dark-furred pets. We have also expanded into providing functional, pet-friendly home items that humans can use such as dish soaps and hand soaps.
What is the size of the potential market?
GC: According to Statista, the home and laundry care market here has reached US$3 billion in revenue and it is expected to grow annually at 3.34 percent. According to Rakuten Insights, the Philippines has the highest number of pet owners in Southeast Asia, with 67 percent of pet owners having a dog or cat. According to Global Pet Industry, the pet market is expected to grow around 6 percent a year due to the increase in pet ownership, with a forecast of online sales of pet products to reach US$16 million by 2026.
What we are aiming for is to target the people who are at the intersection of these two; those who are looking for alternative natural products that are not just safe for humans, but also for the creatures around them—whether they are pet owners or not.
Who are your investors, and how closely did you work with them through the product development stage?
GC: We do not have any official investors. We have been mostly self-funded, with help from friends and family.
But we do have collaborators. I worked with a chemist who helped us to find the right local produce to create a product with the features we had in mind, like Neem for its anti-tick and flea and anti-bacterial properties, and Jicama for brightening and whitening. When it came to our home products, I wanted something that had natural antibacterial properties but is lick-safe. Pets, and sometimes even babies, can get into places they shouldn’t. With our home products, if small quantities are accidentally ingested, they will not have serious adverse effects compared to a lot of other cleaning products in the market. Our lemon-scented dish soap was also the idea of a friend, who does pet bowls.

A good step to making the switch to safer alternatives is looking out for products that are made of natural ingredients such as Neem. Neem is a common tree from India whose various parts can be used in many different, beneficial ways—similar to the Coconut! More than being a natural ingredient, Neem has also been found to be an effective cleanser and disinfectant due to its
antimicrobial effects.
Here is a list of products that can effectively clean your home while keeping you and your pet safe.
Creating resolutions is a common New Year’s tradition that a lot of people do. Making healthier choices often sits at the top of the list, with keeping the home clean a close second. These two resolutions can actually go hand-in-hand especially when it comes to choosing cleaning products to use. While it’s not a resolution that’s as obvious as eating more vegetables or exercising more
consistently, purchasing safer, non-toxic cleaning products can also go a long way for your health and the health of those around you.
Oftentimes, people don’t put much thought into what cleaning products they buy—as long as it gets the job done, then it should be fine. However, studies have shown that while common cleaning
products keep our homes spotless and clean, many of these contain harmful ingredients such as ammonia, phenol, and bleach. These harsh ingredients can not only cause irritation and discomfort especially if you have sensitive skin, but can also leave long-lasting effects on one’s health too. This risk is even higher for those with babies at home, both humans and those with fur, as children and pets are naturally curious. They have the tendency to touch, sniff, and lick things around them, and using harmful cleaning products may potentially be life-threatening for them.
A good step one to making the switch to safer alternatives is looking out for products that are made of natural ingredients such as Neem. Neem is a common tree from India whose various parts can be used in many different, beneficial ways—similar to the Coconut! More than being a natural ingredient, Neem has also been found to be an effective cleanser and disinfectant due to its
antimicrobial effects. On top of this, it is also a non-toxic insect repellent for both humans and plants alike!
Our line of disinfectants and insecticides has several Neem options for you to select from for your various household chores and daily to-dos:
1. For Washing the Dishes. Our antibacterial Neem Natural Liquid Dish Soap is a safe, yet effective cleaning product that can even be used for both baby bottles and furbaby bowls!
2. For Washing Your Hands. For older humans, our Neem Natural Liquid Hand Soap is a gentle hand soap that’s available in nostalgic Nenuco scented and unscented versions.
3. For All-Around Cleaning. Our Neem House Cleaner, Deodorizer & Bug Repellant is an all-around super cleaner that can kill nasty bacteria, remove bad odors, and keep the bugs away without the strong scent of insecticide.
4. For Keeping Gardens Pest-Free. A plantita and plantito’s best friend, our Natural Multipurpose Institutional Pet Cleaner with Bioneem keeps your plants safe and controls bugs in gardens and
areas susceptible to infestation.
Looking for more cleaning product alternatives? Here are some other local products that hit the mark!
1. For Fresh and Clean Laundry. Victoria Laundry Detergent is a coconut-based, herbal laundry detergent gentle for sensitive fabrics and skin.
2. For Potty-Training Assistance. Furry friends caused a potty accident? Our Natural Persimmon Pet Urine & Odor Eliminator can help save the day by removing, not masking the source of pee
and poop stink!
3. For a Relaxing Space to Unwind. Let Messy Bessy’s Room and Linen Spray calm you down after a long day with its relaxing lavender scent, all the while disinfecting your room and linens.
4. For a Squeaky Clean Bathroom. Full Circle’s Bathroom Cleaner with Citrus Burst removes dirt, hard water, and soap stains from your bathroom without the use of bleach or whiteners.
While sticking to one’s resolution to make healthier choices throughout the year may be a tricky and daunting task, choosing to switch to safer cleaning product alternatives is something you
can easily do now, especially as organic and natural products are becoming more accessible and affordable. They may be slightly pricier than what you’re used to, but they not only reduce your
carbon footprint and save the environment, but they are long-term investments for your household’s well-being and for a better, healthier 2023 too!
No owner wants to see their beloved pet gobble down feces, whether it’s their own or the feces of other animals. Poop-eating is never a cute look, even if the subject in question is an impossibly fluffy poodle or a gorgeous Siberian husky with stunning blue eyes. Sorry, furbabies, it’s not you, it’s poo.
The good news? Your sweet companions can redeem themselves. Read on for the scoop on poop-eating, the risks it poses, and tips to help your pet break the habit.
Poop-eating, also called coprophagia, is a natural behavior at certain stages of a dog’s life. For the first three weeks after birth, canine mothers lick their newborn puppies to help them go to the toilet and to keep them clean. They also eat their puppies’ poop to keep them and the area hygienic and free from diseases and parasites. Puppies mimic this behavior, but soon outgrow poop-eating.
Beyond ingrained behavior, there are other reasons why dogs might ingest poop:
It is generally harmless for a dog to eat his own stool. However, bacteria and parasites from that stool can possibly be transmitted to humans and other animals through contact with the dog’s mouth and saliva. Until your pet drops their poop-eating habit for good, be sure to wash your hands thoroughly when you do come in contact with your dog’s mouth or saliva.
If your dog has the habit of eating the feces of another animal, especially another dog or a cat, there is the risk of ingesting the eggs of intestinal parasites and potentially harmful bacteria that can lead to illness. Fret not. Below, see our tips on mitigating the behavior.
You have determined the reason behind your dog’s undesirable tendency in Point #1, now let’s move on to stopping it. Before anything else, make sure you’re minimizing poop-eating opportunities by picking it up as soon as it happens. If you live with a cat, you might want to keep your cat’s litter box clean, too.
Ensure your dog is eating a balanced diet. This means whole food, organ meats, all those stuff that are particularly rich in vitamins and minerals. Throw in pre- and probiotics and digestive enzymes to ensure that your dog gets all the benefits of the meal.
Another way to stop a dog from digging into their poop is by making the poop less appealing. That’s right. Add meat tenderizer, canned pumpkin, or another deterrent to your dog’s meal. These food items taste fine in food, but they make poop taste terrible to dogs.
Your dog is a scavenger at heart, exploring the world with its nose and mouth. So the next time you catch your dog in the act, remain calm. The last thing you want to do is punish your dog, which can cause behavioral issues and even make their bad habits worse. Put yourself in their paws—coprophagia is a natural behavior to them. That makes it an extra tricky habit to break. By giving your pet plenty of guidance and encouragement, you are making the unlearning experience as stress-free as possible.

We like to call it a lucky coincidence how when we went to check in on George Carlos, founder of Fetch! Naturals, we chanced upon the pooch mom and her bichon frise in the middle of preparing for their habitual baking session. “Drogo and I were just about to bake a cake together,” George said, standing over her pup who was inspecting the cake kit.
“Our home is home to a lot of fur babies, so once in a while [Drogo and I] like to prepare special treats for everyone,” she gushed as we headed toward a simple white counter. “Welcome to our kitchen!”
📋 Some notes from George before we start
Step 1
Step 2
Pour batter into a baking container. On the side, mix 2 tablespoons of water into your icing mix.
Step 3
Put the batter in a preheated oven (a toaster oven would work, too!) and bake for 25 minutes. If you don't have an oven, baking via microwave also works. To do so, place inside for 2 minutes.
Your cake is fully cooked! Yay. Keep it away from your floofer’s nose and wait for it to cool.
Step 4
Once your cake is nice and cool, it’s time to frost. Add a candle. It’s a birthday cake, after all.
Step 5
The most important step of all—enjoy! Share it with your pets and your pets’ friends. Every pooch deserves a delicious lick of cake every once in a while.
What’s a pet owner-pooch bonding activity without a heart-to-heart conversation? Fun Q&A incoming, read on Fetch pack!
Q: Where do you get inspiration for Fetch?
A: From everyday life with Drogo! Being Drogo’s hoomama means I get to see the gaps in terms of his care. When we do something, sometimes I go, “I wish there was a product to make this easier,” which leads me to creating the solution. Which is why our catalog is starting to expand in other verticals beyond the usual grooming products (shampoos and conditioners). Think pet dental sprays (doggie mouthwash!) and dry shampoo for extra lazy—I mean, rainy days!
Q: How has Fetch changed since the beginning of the year?
A: The Fetch! pack has been super busy since we are developing a lot of new products! We will continue to expand our original grooming line, however as part of our core values of being a 100% Filipino brand, we want to keep finding local ingredients to use in our newer product lines.
In addition to that—I just got married! Living in our new place urged me to reflect on the lifestyle we have, and whether or not our home is as “Drogo-friendly” and “Drogo-ready” as possible. This is why Fetch recently launched pet products related to this theme, such as a bigger refill bottle of our Urine Remover and our No Chew! Anti Chew Bitter Spray.
Q: Do you and Drogo share the same love language? What are your favorite ways to spend time with him?
A: We are both definitely food motivated! Which is probably why we enjoy making his treatos together. Aside from that, we both definitely love cuddles.
Q: What is Drogo’s favorite part of baking a cake?
A: Licking the batter off the bowl and the spoon! Why wait for the cake to bake and cool when the liquid version is right there?!
Q: If Drogo was a cake, what kind of cake would he be?
A: Definitely pumpkin. Sweet, and also unique as a cake flavor.
Q: Give a piece of advice you wish someone had offered you when you were starting out with Fetch.
A: Don’t worry about competitors. Do your own thing and focus on the values your company has. In the end, those unique qualities will make you stand out and that sincerity will attract the right customers. Remember, the pie is always big enough for everyone.
]]>You’ve fulfilled your duty as Responsible Pet Owner: you’ve checked the label before dropping that pet shampoo in your cart, virtual or not. But what do those things written on the label mean exactly?
Before you head to the checkout counter (or page), it’s important that you understand what you are looking at. The ingredient list is where all the really important information is, but sometimes it can just seem a bit impossible to decipher, especially when it includes a lot of unpronounceable words.
That being the case, we sat down with Founder George Carlos and Dr. Kitsie Torres of Island Vet to help you navigate the world of pet care. Ready to feel more confident when reading your ingredient labels? Read on below to achieve your pet’s fur goals fast.
With new local pet brands popping up left and right, choosing the right shampoo for your furry companion can quickly become homework, and a hard one at that. Dr. Kitsie’s advice? Keep it simple. “One of the first things I check is the fragrance,” she says. She warns to steer clear of shampoos that are heavily scented because dogs and cats have much more sensitive noses than humans, with the canine snout 40 times stronger than the human equivalent and feline nostrils between nine and 16 times the olfactory power of humans. “If the scent feels strong for you, imagine how it would smell for your fur baby,” she adds.
Have a smelly dog or cat in your hands? You might really like this cleansing bar from our Neem Pet Care Line. It has actual neem leaves to gently scrub dirt away, and honey to deeply cleanse and exfoliate. No fussy fragrances, just a formula that works!
Researching the brand is very important, too. “I go through the brand’s website and look at several reviews before purchasing a product,” Dr. Kitsie shares. One of the pet shampoos that won the vet’s approval is the Jicama Brightening Wash with Green Tea Seed Oil & Aloe Vera, which she uses on her 6-month-old Coton de Tulear x Bichon Frise puppy. It does not contain colorings or bleach in its formula, using only 100% Jicama extract to reduce stains caused by tears and saliva.
Pet-owner-slash-founder George is also a proud mom to her bichon frise, Drogo. Before our founder launched Fetch! Naturals, her pup encountered skin irritation caused by chemical-laden products. What restored Drogo’s coat was a dog shampoo that used neem in its formula. Since then, George is a firm believer that the best pet shampoo is both natural and effective.
While it makes sense that more consumers and more brands are focusing on natural ingredients in products, it’s important to know that natural is not always an indicator that a product is safe. There are a handful of natural or organic ingredients that are toxic for pets. Think: poison ivy and arsenic.
“We handpick natural ingredients—ideally local ones like Neem and Jicama. Those that are backed up by scientific studies,” George reassures. “Aside from standard practices such as cruelty-free, non-toxic, and all natural labels, we make sure that our products go through proper quality checks to ensure that they are truly safe and effective.”
For local products, Dr. Kitsie encourages checking if the products have been certified by the Bureau of Animal Industry, Food and Drug Administration, and other government institutions.
It can be difficult to find products that deliver the healthy, shiny fur of your pet’s dreams while also skipping damaging ingredients. The key: make a no-no list. In general, here are a few ingredients to avoid when looking for a safe shampoo:
You can avoid common harmful ingredients by opting for natural products. They are free of synthetic chemicals, so you won’t even have to check the label (of course, the Responsible Pet Owner inside you thinks otherwise).
When asked what the most purchased product is, George says it’s “definitely the Neem Leave-On Rinse.” (Questions? Comments? Violent reactions? Or is this also your Fetch favorite?)
“I think it sells well because it’s one of the more versatile products we have,” says George. “This one product is your antibacterial spray, tick and flea repellant, deodorizer, and hotspot soother all in one.”
And guess what? This one is also our founder’s best friend during the rainy season when Drogo just refuses to take baths. Oh, Drogo!
Shopping for pet care essentials is no small feat, but we hope that with this guide, you can start adding to cart with confidence. Long story short: Your Fetch pack is always here to help. Come back to this blogpost anytime you need a quick refresher!

]]>If there’s one thing that everyone knows about pet owners, it’s that they go the extra mile for their fur babies. Some show their affection by looking for new ways to jazz up meals for a picky eater, some throw a feast complete with their pet’s very own cake to mark a special day, while others make an Instagram page and help their pets reach social media superstar status.
If you are reading this, chances are you are guilty of the third one (or did you get all three?) You are a social media savvy pet owner, and we can’t blame you—you have a star material pooch or feline on your hands and it’s definitely ready for its closeup.
Without further ado, here is our guide to get the perfect Instagram photo of your pet. Scroll through our tips and tricks below and let’s get started!
No one knows your pet better than you do. What we mean is: you’ve seen your furry friend at its best and at its worst, goo around the eyes and all. Don’t stress, we’ve got the grooming department down pat. With the help of a Fetch bath, your pet can sport bright, lustrous hair both on and off camera.
It also helps to brush up on some commands before the shoot. Stick with the basics like “sit,” “down,” and “stand.” Get your pet used to “stay” or “wait” as one of the most difficult aspects of pet photography is keeping your pet still. As with anything you teach your pet, the more practice they get, the better the results.
Ideally, you’ll want to shoot in natural light, especially if you have a pet that gets skittish around a flash. When photographing with natural light indoors, opt for a room with adequate natural light. Take photos of your pet near a sunny window if possible.
If you’re taking things outdoors, it’s important to avoid direct sunlight. Schedule your shoot during the “golden hour,” shortly after sunrise or just before sunset, which creates a warm color temperature that is softer and more flattering than the harsh midday sun.
While a simple background is always en vogue, a patch of grass or a funky piece of fabric makes the perfect backdrop for creating more striking photos. Take into account your pet’s coat color, too. For example, if your pet has a white coat, don’t have them pose in front of a completely white wall! Use a light or dark solid piece of fabric to contrast your pet’s coat and show off their fabulous fur.
Now’s the time to turn to their wardrobe. A ruffled bandana, a Hawaiian shirt, and even a full on costume are all great options—choose one that lets your pet’s personality shine through! Keep in mind that their safety should come first. Supervise your pet while the prop is in play and put it away when you're done. Additionally, don't be afraid to put on a collar and leash for safety, you can always photoshop them off during editing.
You can begin the shoot by asking your pet to sit, stay, lay down, or shake. All you need are some treats on hand to encourage them to look your way as you take several shots.
Want your pet to look like it's smiling in the shot? Have them take a quick run or play with them for a bit. Once your dog is panting, whip out your camera to catch that smile in action. Be sure to reward your pet later for a job well done.
When you’re snagging some photos, don't just take one or two. You want plenty of options to choose from. To achieve this, utilize the continuous burst mode to capture multiple images in a short amount of time. Don’t worry about repetitive shots, you can just sort through them later and delete any flops.
Capturing great pet photos takes a lot of time and patience. Have fun with it! As great as the photos turn out, the moments you spend with your furry companion are the ones you’ll treasure forever.

You hear the excited barking and scratching at the door before you can even open the door. Once you do, you are greeted with the sight of your pet flying around, going bonkers with joy. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been out for an hour or an entire day, your pet becomes overly excited just the same.
As in any other loving relationship, spending time apart can be tough. The highs are high, but the lows feel like the lowest of lows for your pet. As for you, it’s always difficult to leave the house knowing your pet suffers from anxiety while you’re apart.
As the country slowly opens back up, we believe it’s time to get to the bottom of this. Here’s a breakdown on what you should know in case your pet struggles with separation anxiety.
You already know how your hyper-attached pet becomes over excited when you walk in the door, but what happens before your arrival? Pets experiencing separation anxiety suffers from real stress when their owners are not around and that may manifest in unwanted and sometimes destructive behaviors. When left alone, your pet may:
Now that we’re a little more clear on the signs of separation anxiety, let’s talk about what you can’t do, because you may have been (unawarely) feeding into your pet’s anxiety.
Don’t make a big deal out of arrivals and departures. When you’re preparing to leave the house, always act calm. Play it cool and project the confidence of a pack leader. This assures your pet that the time apart is no big deal.
When you return, wait until your pet settles down before greeting them briefly. Avoid gushing as it will only work them up. With a little consistency, you can help your pet learn that it is OK to be alone.
You may have noticed that besides the more obvious signs of separation anxiety, there are subtle signs (whining, panting, pacing, following you around, etc.) and they appear before you actually leave the house. Your pet is smarter than you think and can pick up on cues that indicate you are about to depart.
List all the things you do when preparing to leave the house that make your pet anxious. These can be picking up your keys, bag, jacket, and even wearing your mask. Put on your shoes but don’t leave. Pick up your keys without heading to the door. Do this over and over—make sure your pet is calm before presenting the cues again. Eventually, your pet will learn that these cues are no longer predictive of your departure.
After this, you can practice mock departures. Ask your pet to stay, then leave the room for 5 minutes. As they get used to the stay game, slowly increase the amount of time you’re away.
Retraining your pet should be done in a gradual and positive way—go slowly! As much as it seems like your pet is doing all the work here, you have just as much responsibility. Your pet is counting on you, so be consistent and you’ll be coming home to a happy and calm pet in no time.

If you are one of the many people who treat their furry BFFs as human equals (dressing pets in boots and tiny clothes, you know, the whole ordeal) then you will be delighted to know that even pets have a love language. Developed by author Gary Chapman, the concept of love languages suggests that there are five definitive ways to give and receive love: physical touch, words of affirmation, quality time, receiving gifts, and acts of service.
To take your playdates up a notch, let your pet’s love language decide what you’re doing with them this summer. Here, we share date ideas that will make your pet swoon and feel uber loved. Take notes and happy scrolling!
Something as simple as watching a movie on the couch together can be a totally fun experience for your pet, especially so if they’re big on snuggles, ear scratches, and good old belly rubs.
One surefire sign that your pet is a physical touch type of pal or gal is when they sit on you, even when there is a comfy spot right next to you. Bliss!
For this, we’re traveling to the local pet park. But this is no ordinary trip; throw your pet’s favorite treats in the carrier and muster up a lot of patience before you head out the door because you’ll be needing those. And of course, don’t forget to bring lots of compliments (“Who’s a good boy/girl?” is always appreciated).
Most training sessions are structured with a goal and a set amount of time given to that goal, so feel free to make a schedule fit for your pet. Keep these sessions short and sweet, after all the ulti-mutt goal is to make your pet feel loved. Tricks are just a fun bonus on this playdate!
If your pet follows you around to and from every room of the house, then you might just have a velcro pet on your hands (yes, velcro in the most literal sense). It’s OK for quality time pets if you’re busy and doing your own thing, they’re perfectly content just being around you. This is also how you can tell that your pet falls under this love language and not under physical touch.
Go out for brunch, a beach day, or a picnic in the park. A leisurely time spent outdoors gives you and your pet plenty of time for 1:1 bonding.
There are few things more challenging than getting the perfect gift for a special someone. Fortunately, your pet is an open book. Anything that’s shiny and new is sure to please your material pooch. Try surprising them with chewy treats, some puzzles, or a new bandana and see which one strikes their interest.
Any trip to the spa is good for the soul, and the same goes for your pooch. Give a nice brush or a relaxing bath to truly pamper your pet. It’s an efficient date option, too—one less to-do during the week!
But I’m a cool mom, not a regular mom, you say. Good news: pawdicures are a thing, and you can even match nail colors and designs with your pet. Just be sure to select a pet-safe polish or nail clips as human nail polish can be toxic for pets if licked or ingested.
Now go and learn your furry best friend’s love language if you haven’t yet, so that when summer finally rolls around you’ll have plenty of pawfect date options to choose from.

]]>You’ve decided that 2022 is the year you finally become a fur parent and you’re probably ready to hit the ground running: The pet bed is made, the custom bowl has arrived, and most importantly, you’ve done your research.
But if you’re like most first-time pet owners, you know that one can never be too ready when it comes to fur parenting. So before you officially welcome your new four-legged friend into your home, feel free to go over our guide and check things twice—we’ve covered the basics to make this transition as smooth and easy for you (and your pet, of course) as possible.
Choosing a good veterinarian should be at the top of your checklist. Here are a few pointers to help you in your quest to find the perfect fit:
Get recommendations
Check with your friends who have pets for vet recommendations. Remember to ask about more than just the veterinarian. Get insight into location, rates, and even the way staff members interact with pets. If you feel like the clinic will be a good fit, call and set up a time to come by the facility to evaluate for yourself.
Visit the premises
Observe whether the clinic looks and smells clean. Does it feel like the place could use a thorough scrubbing or does it smell clean and inviting?
This is also the time to ask questions, so fire ahead. Ask about their office hours, the regular and emergency services they provide, what equipment they have (and don’t have) on-site, and the like.
Pick your match
Having a hard time making a final selection? When in doubt, feel it out! Vets have different personalities—some are warm and chatty while others take a more straight-to-the-point approach. In any case, your vet should be willing to hear and address your concerns with compassion. Your vet, after all, is an important partner in making sure your pet lives a long and healthy life.
Before you shop for food, find out what your new pet has been eating, then decide whether to stick with it or transition to a new food. When deciding, take into account factors such as your pet’s age, size, breed, activity level, food allergies, as well as price changes and product discontinuations.
If you are switching to a new food, it’s important that you do so slowly and gradually. While your pet may eagerly devour the new food, your pet’s digestive tract may not be as enthusiastic about the change. To prevent intestinal upset and potential consequences such as diarrhea and vomiting, mix in the new food with the old food over the course of a week or more.
Set up a crate and make it comfortable for your pet. Add a comfy blanket and some fun snacks. By starting your pet with a confined space like a crate, you’re giving them a safe space of their own, as well as limiting their potty accidents since they usually won’t relieve themselves in a space they rest in.
Crate training with cats isn’t as common as with dogs, but it’s just as helpful for cat owners. For instance, training your kitten to associate the crate or carrier with positive experiences will allow you to quickly confine and transport your cat whenever necessary.
The first few days are a period of adjustment for your new pet. Introduce the house rules to your pet through positive reinforcement. Reward good behavior with praise, treats, or their favorite toy.
As your pet settles in, observe their body language such as movement and positioning of the eyes, ears, and tail. Having trouble decoding their movements? Fret not, we’ve broken them down here.
Now that you’ve checked everything on this list, we’re confident that you’ll make a great pet owner. The path to fur parenthood might have been tough to navigate, but it’s worth every trouble and you’ll know it once your pet finally steps inside your home.

]]>Naughty or nice, your furry best friend gets the number one spot on your holiday list. With that said, one question arises: What gift do you give to your #1!? If you’re feeling overwhelmed, pass this task to us.
Below, the 12 best gifts for pets. Sneak in a belly rub when you present your gift to score bonus points!
If your family takes holiday photos seriously, a festive bandana for your furry family member should sit at the top of your shopping list. Plus, it will keep your pet perfectly toasty while you take more shots.
There’s no better gift than one your pet can use right away. A new blanket can also save your clothes from getting all chewed up. Win-win!
There’s a Bow House bed for every home decor—find yours among a sea of options. Not only will your pet’s bed complement your space, it will also be a cozy place for your pet to settle in while the whole family gathers for movie night.
Sure, the holidays are a time to relax and laze around. But we bet you can tempt your lazy cat into a bit of daytime fun with a cat scratcher. Pro tip: bring it out to keep your cat entertained while you go over your holiday prep checklist before the guests arrive.
Make your pet the star of the season by displaying a painting or artwork of your pet’s face on the wall. Studio Giuliano makes charming pet portraits that you would proudly show off. Their account also has satisfying time-lapses of their process!
‘Tis the season to eat, drink, and be merry. Treat your pet to an elevated dish to make eating and drinking more comfortable this season.
For the pooch you’ve spoiled all year round, an exciting new treat—such as Playful Tail’s carrot & apple soft cookies, Canine Chow’s homemade dog food toppers and dehydrated treats, Puppy Cake’s cake mix for dogs, or Hoggin’ Dogs’ ice cream—is sure to perk up your dog’s interest this season. Save some treats for when you’re sitting down for Christmas dinner and your dog is begging for a nibble.
This leather set of name tag, collar, and leash by Pawdel are labeled as “wearable pieces of love” and rightly so! They come in gorgeous colorways like merlot (tan/maroon), taffy (lilac/salmon pink), and loden (vintage brown/green) that will make walking the dog a suave affair.
Share your love of luxurious bath products with your pet. Featuring products from our Neem Pet Care and Indulge Line, our gift boxes will make your pet a self-care believer by the end of the year. Choose from our eight different gift sets.
Going full festive mode means always having a pet bowl with you, no matter the occasion. Tuck a collapsible silicone bowl into your purse the next time you go out: it’s compact and lightweight for convenient snacking on the go.
Does your pet have a playdate coming up? Gift your pet with our leave-on rinse. It freshens up the coat, soothes hot spots and wounds, and keeps bugs away using all-natural ingredients such as neem extract, aloe vera, and lavender. You might as well bring it along because it doubles as a handy sanitizer for you.
Ensure your cat stays hydrated with a water fountain. Water fountains mimic running bodies of water, which appeals to your cat’s senses more than the boring water bowl sitting in the corner. Sometimes your cat just needs a little incentive to drink up.
It can be a challenge to shop for a pet (after all, it’s impossible to get their wishlist) but the great thing about giving your pet a holiday gift is that they’re generally easy to please. It’s a treat in itself to watch them sniff out the gift you picked out for them!

]]>Some days you feel like you and your canine companion understand each other so well, in fact, you feel like you’ve taken things to another level that transcends language. But on other days, you’re left wondering what your dog wants to tell you. You catch your pet staring into your soul (sometimes while enjoying a chew toy) and you think to yourself, half amused and half concerned, “why does my dog stare at me?”
Dogs are non-verbal, meaning they communicate through body language such as movement and positioning of the eyes, ears, and tail. If you’re experiencing trouble in doggie paradise, hop right in. With a little extra knowledge, you can be sure that nothing will come between you and your furry pal again.
You make eye contact with your dog multiple times a day—when it’s time for their meal, when calling them over for a training session, or when you pass them on the way to the kitchen. So before you get into another round of intense (or not so intense) eye contact with your furry best friend, take this as an opportunity to check if you two are actually on the same page.
Friendly eyes are soft, innocent, and soulful—and yes, they’re the same puppy dog eyes you can’t resist. On the opposite side of the spectrum are “whale eyes.” Your dog will avert their head slightly but the eyes will stay fixed on something or someone, exposing the white parts of the eyes known as the sclera. If you see your dog showing the whites of their eyes, consider it as a friendly wake-up call to figure out what is causing your dog anxiety or discomfort.
A dog’s ears can be the windows to their state of mind. Are your dog’s ears gently pulled back? Great! That’s a good sign. It means your pet is feeling all nice and relaxed. If it’s accompanied by a happy tail wag, you can be sure that your dog is up for some cuddles.
On the other hand, ears that are pointed up signals that your dog is curious or on alert from something. If you look closely, you’ll notice that the position of the ears gives quite a revelation: dogs slightly tip their ears in the direction of the object or person that piqued their curiosity!
Lastly, flattened ears, or ears that are pinned back or to the sides, may either be a submissive gesture or a precursor to an attack. A telltale sign that your dog is preparing to pounce includes bared teeth and growling, so keep your eyes and ears peeled for that.
A wagging tail isn’t always the sign of a friendly dog. There’s a grain of truth to this often misread gesture though, which is that a wagging tail in itself is a sign of arousal.
It’s important to pay attention to your dog’s overall body stance. A happy dog may wag their tail and get their whole body involved. A dog who is about to bite, however, is usually fairly rigid, with their tail pointed high and moving back and forth more quickly.
You may feel like dog body language is complicated, what with the subtle differences in body signals. However, learning how to read your dog’s body language becomes fairly easy when you know which body language signs to look for. Feel free to come back to this post whenever you need help in the decoding department, we’ll be here when you do!

]]>If you’re reading this, chances are you already know the appeal of dressing up pets—Halloween or not—from stylish leashes, collars, and harnesses to the more elaborate bandanas, shirts, and even boots. But what if we tell you that dressing up your pet this year has the potential to be twice as appealing? Hear us out: dress up with them. A matchy-matchy look is sure to wow the crowd, plus it makes a great bonding moment for you and your furry friend! Start scrolling for 13 costume ideas that are fun or spooky-chic, but all very easy to pull off.
Cottagecore is in, give these garden-themed DIY costumes a try this Halloween. A blue shirt and a pointy hat are everything you need to nail the garden gnome fit. Include your dog in the fun with a bumblebee outfit.
Take inspo from happy hour by turning your pet into your favorite martini drink. Simply slide two to three green floral foam balls or paper “olives” onto a lightweight dowel rod and glue inside the cone. Now slip into a cozy robe and you two are all set for a Halloween-themed happy hour—er, night!
It’s time to roll out your yoga mats and discover your inner (Halloween lover) self with this costume. Get dressed in your usual yoga attire, complete with an elastic headband and your comfiest pair of leggings. For your pet, throw on a pink shirt and wrap up some foam paper for a fun-size yoga mat it can carry around.
Who can ever forget the cavity-inducing fantasy world from Katy Perry’s California Gurls music video? Take inspiration from this pop-funk bop and throw on a blue wig and cupcake bra on your pet and on yourself. This costume is perfect if you’re feeling a little flirty, and if you’ve just dyed your hair the same iconic shade of blue.
As if you and your furry Rodrigo fan need one more reason to have your own Gen-Z superstar moment. Scour your closet for matching silk headscarves, white tops, and vintage-looking sunglasses. It also won’t hurt to have a quick vocal warm up with your pet, just in case you’re asked to perform a few lines.
If your pet isn’t a fan of flaunting full costumes, consider this laidback but just-as-glam costume idea. For your pet: a bejeweled skirt or tutu. For you: a blingy mask, a couple of iridescent eyeshadow options, and a high pony à la Ariana Grande.
It doesn’t get easier, or more breezy, than this. Cut out holes for the eyes and mouth for you and your pet’s bedsheet ghost ‘fits. No crafting skills required.
The bat remains to be a Halloween classic. Attach cardboard wings to your pet’s harness and complement its costume by dressing up as a blood-sucking vampire. Wear all black and let fake blood bleed out of the corners of your mouth for a spooky touch.
Here’s a costume you can leave at the last minute. All you need for this punny costume are a black shirt and a red neck pillow hanging around your neck. Cover your pet in yellow strips of crepe paper—your pal can be the chick!
Looking for the perfect occasion to show off your LBD? Then you’ll love this costume idea: go classic Audrey with a little black dress, some pearls, cat-eye sunglasses, and a sparkly tiara. Your pet can go as your little croissant: if it’s small enough, you can put the lower half of your pet’s body in a regular brown paper bag, however feel free to DIY a paper bag using cardboard to fit a larger pet. C’est magnifique!
Giving new meaning to bath time, this costume turns your pet into an extra large loofah. Bunch up tulle in the color of your choice and glue it onto one of your pet’s fitted shirts. Add a rope loop to complete your pet’s paw-some look. For your costume, cut out letters from paper or cardboard to spell ‘soap’ (or Fetch if you’re feeling extra) and glue them on a white shirt. Add white balloons all over your shirt for a sudsy bubbles effect.
Look like you stepped straight out of a children’s storybook. Recreate the characters by wearing a red dress and a matching hooded cape as Little Red Riding Hood and preparing a shower cap (covered with cotton balls), a fluffy white sweater, and a pair of grandma glasses for your pet to go as Big Bad Wolf.
Before you start crafting, remember to never leave your pet in a costume unsupervised. Be sure to use only soft, lightweight materials that won’t constrict movement or obstruct your pet’s vision, hearing, or ability to breathe or bark, and you’re sure to have a happy night of fright, paws down. Happy Halloween!
Naps in a strip of sunlight by the window, small bursts of play (belly rubs included) throughout the day, meals lovingly prepared in a nice-looking bowl. Laid out like this, it’s easy to think that your pet is living the dream. And it probably is, with a devoted parent at its beck and call, or shall we say “bark” and call. However, stressful situations sometimes arise (e.g. changes in weather, loud noises, and new people), and when they do, you need to be quick on your feet and know how to de-stress your pet. Here’s our guide to a relaxing spa day at home to help wash your pet’s worries away.
Dim lighting? Check. Classical music playing softly in the background? Check. Tasty treats in hand? Check. The idea is to have your pet feeling relaxed, not trembling on the bathroom floor. Most dogs would rather skip bath time, but you can get your dog to enjoy the first item on your spa day agenda by making the environment as calm and peaceful as possible.
It also helps to brush the coat out and remove mats before getting your dog wet as water causes mats to get tighter. Use slow, gentle strokes and your furry pal will feel like it’s getting a massage!
For a delicious scrub down to the skin, a cleansing bar will do just the trick. With neem as its base, the Neem Deep Cleansing Bar heals and soothes skin while killing ticks, fleas, and other creepy crawlies. Let the lather sit for a few minutes before rinsing it off.
If you’re looking for something a bit more personalized, you can opt for a shampoo that caters to your dog’s coat type. For light-colored coats, there is a wide range of brightening shampoos: bleaching shampoo, bluing shampoo, dyeing shampoo, enzymatic shampoo, optical brightening shampoo, and the list goes on. But what are the most important things to look for in a brightening shampoo? Your shampoo should contain a safe and natural formula, meaning it’s free of parabens, harsh chemicals, and heavy fragrances that can dry out your pet’s skin and coat. The Jicama Brightening Wash is made with 100% Jicama extract that naturally brightens, lightens, and hydrates the skin.
For dark-colored coats, a good shampoo should add richness and shine without using dyes, like the Dark Polish Shampoo from our Indulge Line. Our shampoo contains three good-for-your-pet ingredients: dark molasses for naturally enhancing coat colors, goji berry for stimulating melanin formation in each strand, and rosemary for improving the health and growth of hair.
If your dog has a dry skin or coat, take the extra step with a rejuvenating conditioner. Look for a formula with a blend of natural plant oils and extracts such as aloe vera, castor oil, and green tea seed oil that moisturize strands. Work the conditioner into your dog’s coat and allow it to sit for a few minutes—and that’s it! A boost of gloss and hydration, instantly.
Have a plush towel ready for your pet to cozy up in while you blow dry its coat. Keep the dryer at the lowest setting; remember, the cooler the better! Next, bring out a paw balm and give your dog a nice paw massage. Just take a small amount of cream and rub it in a circular motion. This can also be used on elbows, snouts, or anywhere your furry friend has dry skin. Choose a balm with safe, natural ingredients in case your dog takes a lick!
After getting every item on our spa day checklist ticked off, we’re sure your pet (or you) is starting to feel drowsy… right about now. Perfect! Give you and your pet a pat on the back and call it a day with some post-bath snuggles (it’s the cherry on top). After this spa session, we’re sure that you’ll agree with us when we say that your dog will never look at bath time the same way again.

Whether you’ve just adopted a new furry friend or you’ve been a proud pet owner for long, you may have wondered if you’re doing a good job with your pet. Pet parenting is essentially like raising a human child (it requires time, a great deal of patience, and that TLC) but with the extra challenge of learning how to communicate with your pet! It’s no easy feat, but luckily we have a few tips to save you from the woes of a sticky pet situation.
While it’s understandable that certain restrictions have changed your everyday routine with your pets, we encourage you to chew on this: Am I meeting my pet’s need for exercise?
For Dogs
The level of physical activity your dog needs varies depending on its breed and size. If you have a high-energy breed such as the Jack Russell Terrier or Pomeranian, keep in mind that they require a lot more exercise than low-energy breeds like the Bulldog or Chihuahua. Fur mom Therese Castañeda shares that she leads a rather laidback lifestyle, however, she still makes sure that Ash and Snowy, our Petpreneurs from Roxas, get their regular exercise in as they lean more on the active scale.
For Cats
Cats, on the other hand, are generally idle creatures (the average feline sleeps 12 to 16 hours a day, after all). And if your cat is a more chill breed like the Persian and Himalayan, it will happily enjoy lazing around on the couch with you.
For Dogs
For Castañeda, the process of housetraining her two pets was a breeze. The key is to be keen on their routine and the cues they exhibit when they want to do their business. She explains that she practices reward-based training with her pets, meaning she gives rewards for good behavior and withholds rewards for bad behavior. “I’m strict when they’re misbehaving [so that they are] reminded that I’m the alpha,” she adds.
Our friend Christine Vasquez also shares her own experience with us. Interestingly, Petpreneurs Basty and Appa from Valenzuela City have specific barks to alert their fur mom before and after they do their business.
For Cats
On another note, litter box training for cats follows the same reward-based principle. So whenever you notice your cat using the litter box, reward it with a treat or a toy—this helps create positive associations with using the litter box. Another thing to take note of is the cleanliness of the box, you’ll want to keep it clean so that your cat will return and use it.
Vasquez is currently working from home. Although remote work has its downsides, she tells us that it has definitely brought her closer to her fur babies. Until recently, they only had weekends to spend together, but because of the online setup, everyday is now play day with Basty and Appa. She also tells us that her pets enjoy baff time with Fetch! Naturals, after which they have a good snore time (aw). Meanwhile, Castańeda’s daily routine with her pets involves a lot of cuddling (a little tidbit: she calls Ash and Snowy her real life teddy bears). In between cuddles, she squeezes in a brushing session, keeping their coats soft and matt free.
There have been nonstop rains the past few weeks and this rainy season may bring about changes to your pet’s daily activities. This is also a time where pet parents have to be extra careful about their fur babies’s health and hygiene. To help pet parents take care of their pups this season, we listed some tips you can use while staying safe and dry with your fur babies at home!
Frequent thunderstorms during the rainy season can make dogs feel anxious, so learning how to calm them down is a good skill to have for pet parents. Daphne Sashin, writer at WebMD, lists down ways to help your dogs when they are afraid of thunder. First, provide them a place where they can feel safe when thunderstorms happen. That might be a place where they can’t see or hear what’s happening outside like a bathroom or basement. Another way to help dogs is trying a snug-fitting garment. Anxiety vests apply a gentle pressure on dogs and give “a calming effect similar to swaddling a baby.”
Before and after going out for a walk, make sure to dry your pet’s fur to avoid the buildup of fungi and bacteria. Giving your pet a rubdown with a towel or drying with a blower when your fur baby gets wet is a good practice to avoid damp fur. Make sure their fur is safe from ticks and fleas by using anti-tick shampoos or sprays. When giving them a bath is extra challenging because of the constant rains, you can also try using the Fetch! Dry Shampoo to remove dirt and excess oils without giving them a full bath!
Constant rainfall this season may prevent your pups from taking a walk outside or playing in the park, but keeping them active inside the house is still important. Make sure they get regular exercise by allowing them to run around the house or play fetch. You can also try running up and down the stairs with your pets to keep them moving and avoid feeling lethargic during the rainy season.
We hope you and your fur babies stay dry and safe this rainy season!

]]>When we asked a fur parent what lessons her cats continue to teach her, she answered two valuable things—respect and unconditional love.
Sophie Maitland-Smith is the co-founder of an organization called Cat Crusaders, a Petpreneur from Cebu, and also a fur parent herself. She believes that cats, like other animals, are worthy of loving homes and they deserve a second chance at life. Fortunately, her work at Cat Crusaders allows her to give cats the life they deserve.
Cat Crusaders is a group of volunteers that helps cats and kittens find their forever homes. They currently house over 30 cats in their cat home in Cebu City. They care for specially-abled cats, sick or injured cats, or other community cats and kittens who would not survive in the streets.
Aside from taking care of cats and kittens in their cat home, Cat Crusaders also feeds around 50 cats in Salcedo Village, Makati every week. They work hand-in-hand with their head caretaker, Leo, and the village guards to feed the community cats regularly with a one-week supply of dry cat food provided by their organization. The village guards also inform them if a community cat is sick or injured and needs to be neutered or vaccinated.
They have had over 20 of their community cats in Salcedo Village adopted since their founding in April 2020. If anyone is interested in adopting their community cats in Salcedo Village or Cebu City, you can reach out to arrange a pick-up date.
Adopting a cat is a decision that does not just happen overnight. According to Sophie, getting a new pet is like agreeing to having a new family member. It is a commitment in both emotional and financial aspects. “Pet parents must be there for their pets through and through; people who only wish to care for animals when it’s convenient and unproblematic should stay away from a lifestyle involving pets,” she said.
Before adopting a cat, pet parents should have their supplies ready. Make sure you have a litter tray and cat sand, toys, grooming tools, and cat bed or a good old cardboard box as some cats like this better! Aside from preparing these supplies, pet parents should be in contact with a veterinarian whom they can trust. “The first order of business for your adopted cat should be a check-up, allowing the veterinarian to make decisions pertaining to deworming, vaccinations, and neutering (if your cat is old enough),” Sophie advised.
Sophie considers cats as her family. “We refrain from saying that we “have” pets since we view our relationships with our cats as mutually beneficial: we receive companionship in exchange for providing them with food and a safe place to live,” she said. Knowing that they are able to give cats new lives filled with joy keeps them motivated to help them find loving homes.
When you’re a cat parent, expect your pets to enjoy playtime and cuddles but on their own terms. Based on Sophie’s experience, cats tend to set the tone on when and how they receive affection. She said, “Cats need their space from time to time but that doesn’t mean they don’t love you; they just live in their own little worlds.”
Being the co-founder of Cat Crusaders and a pet parent herself, Sophie learned and continues to learn two valuable lessons from cats—respect and unconditional love.
Cats have a lot to teach about respect. They are often stereotyped as fussy animals, but for Sophie, the simple truth is cats aren’t shy to express their feelings through their actions. Being with cats every day allows her to learn more about their preferences in terms of food, toys, and showing affection. Taking care of them teaches her to honor another person or animal’s boundaries and their likes and dislikes.
Lastly, like what every pet parent would say, cats teach her a lot about unconditional love. As rescuers at Cat Crusaders, they encounter stray cats that are either beaten, injured, neglected, or suffering from a feline illness. They do their best to nurse these cats and kittens back to health, but the truth is, using so much energy for animals who don’t fully understand how to reciprocate this effort can be exhausting for them too. Still, they carry on because nothing beats the warmth they feel from helping such animals who cannot verbalize their struggles with you.
“It’s difficult to put into words how amazing it feels to see a helpless animal heal, gain confidence, and grow into their own unique identity. When faced with the question, “If it’s so tiring, why do you keep doing it?”, we know that we can always count on that feeling,” - Sophie Maitland-Smith

Extra warm days can cause health problems that pet parents should be aware of. Whether your fur baby is staying inside or going out more often to play during the warm season, make sure you are prepared to spot and treat these common problems. We’ve listed a few ones to watch out for and some simple steps to take to keep your fur baby safe!
Fur babies experience dehydration when there’s a shortage of water in the body. Some symptoms to watch out for are lethargy, dry skin and gums, sunken eyes, refusal to eat, and difficulty in breathing. When going out for walks or taking your pets on long car rides, make sure you always have lots of cool and clean water to hydrate them. Giving them frozen treats or ice cubes and letting them play in kiddie pools are also fun ways to keep your pups cool.
Fleas and ticks are the “primary rivals” of Appa, our Petpreneur from Dumaguete, and his furry friends during the warm season. In fact, according to their fur mom Simone, one of their pups fell ill a few weeks ago and their veterinarian said it could be tick-related! As their fur mom, she takes a few steps to avoid problems caused by these parasites. “We prevent tick-and-flea related problems by keeping our home clean, regularly inspecting our pets’ fur, utilizing anti-tick and other preventative products, and consulting with our vet,” Simone shared.
If you’re also a fur parent who’s finding a solution for ticks and fleas, here’s an advice from Appa’s fur mom:
“For all pet owners who might be dealing with the same problem, find relief in the fact that Fetch! offers a wide variety of safe, tested, and effective products that utilize ingredients (like Neem) proven to combat ticks so that you and I can keep our fur-friends safe. ❤️❤️❤️”
Nasty fleas and ticks are present all year round in the Philippines, but they are most active during the warmer months. These pests can be harmful not only to fur babies but also to hoomans, so preventing their spread and treating them should be done right away. We’ve listed down a few tips to help you have a flea-and-tick-free warm season with your pets!
Thinking of taking your pet out for a walk? Be careful where you’re going because that might be a place where fleas and ticks love to hang out! Tall grasses, shrubs, and piles of leaves are common breeding grounds for these pests. Avoid letting your fur baby walk in these areas to prevent fleas and ticks from jumping onto your pet’s skin. Cut tall grasses and shrubs short and clear out old furniture and trash in your backyard where they usually hide.
Fleas and ticks love hanging out not only in grasses but also in warm and humid areas inside the house. Make sure to check cracks, curtains, furniture, and floorings regularly because these are common hiding spots for these pests. Some steps you can do to eliminate flea and tick dens at home are washing your pet’s bedding thoroughly, vacuuming your carpets, rugs, and other floorings, and using a safe home spray to kill and repel pests on furniture. Doing these steps will help get rid of their eggs and disrupt the life cycle of these creepy-crawlies!
Doing inspection of your pet’s skin from time to time can help prevent the spread of fleas and ticks. When doing this, try using a fine-tooth comb to catch pests that may be hiding deep beneath the coat. If you went outside with your pets, make it a habit to check their fur as well to prevent them from bringing fleas and ticks inside the house. Using anti-flea-and-tick shampoos and sprays can also be a helpful way to get rid of these creepy-crawlies. Here at Fetch! Naturals, we have our own shampoos that are formulated to kill fleas and ticks naturally and safely! Add the Neem Shampoo, Shampoo Bar, or Neem Leave-On Rinse to your pet’s baff time routine to help them get rid of stubborn fleas and ticks.
We hope you find these tips helpful in keeping your fur babies away from creepy-crawlies during the warmer months!
We’re starting to feel the warm weather, and that means it’s time to think of activities that will help your pets beat the heat! With a few objects you can find at home and a little creativity, you can make the warm days fun and memorable for you and your pets. Here are some pawsome activities you can try this season!
What better way to shake off the heat than with frozen treats? With just a few ingredients you can find at home, you can make yummy summer treats to help your fur baby stay cool in the heat. Whip together some pupsicles, peanut butter or even doggy ice cream that your pets will surely love!
Going to the beach for a swim may not be advisable due to the pandemic, but you can still treat your pet to a dip in the pool! The summer season is the perfect time to take out your kiddie pool and allow your dog to splash around. Finish off your pool party with a baff time using our Neem Shampoo to moisturize and deodorize the fur after staying in the sun.
Aside from setting up a kiddie pool, you can make an at-home waterpark for your pets for some added action and fun. Turn on your water sprinklers or hose and set up a dog tunnel, hula hoops, and poles where your pets can slide and leap over. Make sure they stay fresh by spraying the Neem Leave-On Rinse before playtime!
Know any nearby parks where you can take your dog for a quick bonding time? Take advantage of those uncrowded parks where you can walk your pets and enjoy the shade while having a good meal. Don’t forget to pack their favorite chews and treats and bring lots of water to keep them cool throughout.
If you are trying to avoid crowds but want to take your pet out for some fresh air, going on a road trip with your pets can be the answer. This activity is a great way to bond with your pets while letting them see more of the world around them. Don’t forget to bring some treats and water to keep your fur babies full and hydrated!
P.S. If your place is under GCQ and it’s too risky to go out, you can just do the activities that can be enjoyed at home. It’s better to keep you, your pets, and other hoomans safe always! ❤️
We hope you have lots of fun with your fur babies this coming summer!

You're in the pet store literally sniffing shampoos (come on, we all do that) and one just smells like bubblegum that you decide to get that. Or, your pet just gets stinky so quickly after baff time that you decide to buy the strongest smelling shampoo or pet cologne to fix that problem.
Hold on for a moment and put that bottle down.
Exposing your pet to strong scents can actually be harmful to your furbaby. Not only that, but covering your pet's stink with cologne won't solve the problem and may actually make them more stinky!
That's why its best to choose grooming products with a mild, light, natural scent. If you can find one with no scent- that's great too! Best to skip applying pure essential oils. Not only can they be corrosive and cause allergic reactions on skin, the smell is usually so strong due to the concentration. Also avoid exposing your pet to incense, strong scented candles, and potpourri since these can irritate and induce sneezing, coughing, or in some cases, doggie or kitty asthma.
But what if your furbaby is so stinky? We get it, you want to get rid of it but covering it with cologne or scents isn't the solution. Stink is caused by bacteria so the best solution is to use shampoos with anti-bacterial properties such as those that use Neem Extract or Madre de Cacao.
If your four-legged friend can’t enjoy a box of chocolates, you can always give them a box of their favorite goodies. Give them the gift of fun baff time with their favorite shampoos or prepare a box of their most loved chews and treats. In case you missed it, we have curated gift sets featuring our best baff time essentials! Fur babies, you will love your hoomans even more with these gift boxes especially curated “fur you.” You can get a sweet discount when you use the code: "LOVE"
The start of a new year is a good time to think of how we can become better pet parents to our fur babies. As pet parents, we may still have some things we wish to improve on for the sake of our pets, and we’re here to remind you that it’s okay! We asked some pet owners what promises they hope to keep so they can make their fur babies feel extra loved this year. Here are some of their resolutions to give you ideas, too:
Guilty of not having your fur babies groomed even though it’s time for them to get a haircut? Pepper’s dog dad, Gil, feels the same way too, so here’s his promise to take better care of his fur baby this year:
Being more present is how Reese’s dog mom, Karen, would like to spend the year with her fur baby. Like other pet parents, she sometimes feels guilty of not spending enough time with her dogs because of her busy work schedule. This year, she hopes to continue playing with them more and paying attention to their needs more. Karen has started fulfilling this resolution last year, and she sees that Reese and her friends are more active, more alert, and happier than before!
Giving more time to her dogs is also the resolution of Tin, Bailey’s dog mom. She wants to give Bailey and her four other dogs a good quality of life by being a hands-on dog mom. Training her dogs, feeding them, taking them out for a walk, and bathing them well are just some of the things she’s willing to do for her fur babies no matter how busy she is.
Helping pets learn new commands and guiding them to do things on their own can be beneficial for both hoomans and our furry friends. Guiding her cats to sleep in their own beds is the resolution of Rosy this year. This means she needs to make sure their beds look like a friendly place. Her lucky cats get to enjoy their beds that are always nice and clean with treats and toys next to them! It’s also one of the ways Rosy can make her stray cats feel more comfortable at home.
Do you regret not taking your fur babies out too often? It’s time to take your pets to more adventures this year like what Julian plans to do with his Rottweiler, Bonzo! Julian wants to give Bonzo the best adventures as early as he can, so he tries his best to clear his schedule on Sundays. He bought a hammock-style seat cover for the car so he can take Bonzo on trips more easily.
Got your own list of resolutions? We hope you make your fur babies feel extra loved this year!
5 days until Christmas! Celebrations may look different this year, but we can still make Christmas a fun and memorable occasion for our furry friends. Here’s how some of our Petpreneurs and their hoomans will be spending their Christmas safely this year!
Feeling the festivities on Christmas by going out may not be an option this year, so our Petpreneur from Taguig, Bumble Bee, can only visit less crowded places to celebrate the holidays. His fur parent is willing to scout for places where Bee can feel the festive spirit of the season with extra protection and precautions in mind. “That means Bee’s bag will always have to have sanitizers! The Neem Leave-On Rinse is a must, must, must!!!”
Who says only hoomans can wear ugly sweaters on Christmas? Our fur babies can, too, and we’re sure they would still look so cute! While they’re wearing their best Christmas costumes, take lots of photos of them so you have something to look back on. Chachi the Poodle, our Petpreneur from Laguna, has got her costumes ready and her fur parent is ready to be her official photographer on Christmas!
Celebrating Christmas is best when there’s lots of food! Let your fur babies join your festivities at home and bake their favorite holiday treats. If you can't find time making treats for them yourself, sharing what you have on the dinner table is also fine as long as you know what’s good for them and what’s a no-no!
Save the chocolates and chicken with bones for yourself because these treats are not good for your fur babies. You can still make them happy during your Christmas dinner by sharing food such as cheese, chicken without bones, banana, apples, squash, and even white rice.
Christmas wouldn’t be complete without exchanging gifts. Admit it, your fur babies always make it to your “nice” list even though they get really naughty at times. They deserve to get a special gift for all the love they give all year round!
Our Petpreneurs and their hoomans have their own set of wishes for Christmas. For Bumble Bee, our Neem Leave-On Rinse is a must. A pet hair dryer would be a nice and useful gift for Jarvis and his fur parent. Chachi would love to unwrap a Fetch! Petpreneur-exclusive bandana on Christmas.
How about you and your fur baby? What’s on your wishlist this year? We hope you have a fun, safe, and memorable pawlidays!
]]>Thinking of adding a furry friend to your family? If you’re ready to commit and handle the responsibilities of a pet parent, then this can be the perfect time to adopt one! November is National Adopt A Senior Pet Month, and we encourage you to adopt a pet and help save a life. Read on to hear the adoption story of our Petpreneurs Chance and Courage, and find out ways how you can adopt or sponsor a pet!
Our first cat Petpreneurs from New Manila, Chance and Courage, were adopted by their fur mom, Jane Sy. Jane originally wanted a dog, but a visit to a friend who had a cat made her warm up to the idea of wholeheartedly adopting a cat. After that one-week visit, she called another friend who had kittens up for adoption. Jane confirmed that she would adopt not just one but two kittens, and the rest is history! “It wasn’t love at first sight, but it was love that grew over time,” she says.
Adopting Chance and Courage made Jane feel a kind of love that extends beyond breed and personal biases. “I had my personal biases about cats or pusakals as Filipinos would fondly call our strays here, but there really is so much more than what the naked eye can see.” Adopting a pet requires money, extra space, time, commitment, and mental headspace, but knowing that you are saving another life and getting unconditional love makes it all worth it.
While Jane adopted Chance and Courage from a close friend, there are also shelters that you can visit if you decide to give a pet a forever home. One of them is Pawssion Project, a non-profit organization that aims to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome dogs in distress. It was founded by Malou Perez in October 2018, and since then, they have rescued more than 500 dogs and rehomed over 100 dogs. Their first shelter was built in Bacolod, and when numerous reports poured in after their first pound rescue, they decided to open their second shelter in Bulacan in 2019. Give them a visit if you think you’re ready to adopt a new pet!
Happy National Pet Wellness Month! This celebration is a great reminder of the importance of keeping our pets healthy by doing regular checkups, keeping them groomed and clean, and choosing the right food. Making these healthy choices for your pets may seem difficult these days, but we’re here to help you out! Here are some tips on how to keep your pets healthy and happy in the new normal:
Going to public places like grooming salons poses the risk of getting the coronavirus, but this doesn’t mean we can’t keep our pets well-groomed. Here’s a tip from Carina Sandiego, dog mom of Petpreneurs Daisy and Dolce: take advantage of at-home grooming service! “It is more convenient for me as a business owner because I can work while monitoring my pets’ safety,” Carina shares.
Her dogs’ grooming takes place in their terrace or garden so they can practice social distancing. She always disinfects the tools and the whole area after the grooming session for safety.
Just like going to grooming salons, vet visits may be limited these days. Thanks to technology, contacting vets via text message or online messaging apps is an option when pet parents have questions regarding their pet’s condition. When urgent matters arise and going to the clinic is a must, Carina makes sure to clean her pets and disinfect their carriers once they get home.
Keeping your pets clean is an important part of pet wellness. Using products that are natural and safe for pets is a great way to keep their skin and fur healthy. Daisy and Dolce use our Neem Leave-On Rinse before heading out to keep them safe from insects and ticks and to clean their paws and body after playtime. Their furry friends Tramp and River keep their beards and boots clean and stain-free with our Jicama Brightening Wash every night!
Choosing the right food and supplements helps your pets avoid diseases. Carina’s tip is to “provide them with high-quality kibble and all-natural treats.” She also tries to be cautious when picking her dog’s food and treats. Her other dogs, Tramp and River, are Schnauzers that have very sensitive skin and stomachs, so she carefully chooses the food and treats that won’t cause these issues.
Supplements can also help improve the health of your fur babies! “I really noticed a great improvement in their skin, coat and general health after giving them supplements,” Carina says. One of her dogs’ supplements is Augustine Approved Superboost, which they take after every meal.
We hope you keep your fur babies healthy and happy this month and all year round!
