Human Foods That are Safe for Cats

Most of your cat's diet should be a nutritious and well balanced cat food. However, that doesn't mean you can't share your own food during snack time. Here are some natural, human food that can be given as natural cat treats. Do remember though that moderation is key and it's best to consult with a vet first- just in case your cat has any type of allergies.

1. Fish

Obviously, cats love fish. It has omega-3 fatty acids, which help your cat's eyes stay sharp as well as help with arthritis, kidney disease, and heart disorders. But don't feed too much. Tuna, with its high levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids may be harmful as it lowers the cat's vitamin E levels. Also, it's best to feed cooked or canned fish to avoid certain safety hazards.

2. Eggs

Cooked eggs are a great source of protein and vitamin B for both humans and cats. Do note though that some cats may have allergies to eggs so check with your vet first!

3. Animal Meat
Cooked animal meats such as chicken, beef, turkey, and lean deli meats are great for cats. These animals are carnivores so they do need a good source of protein to maintain their bodies in tip-top shape.

4. Cantaloupe

This juicy, sweet fruit is high in anti-oxidants and beta-carotene, which is great for your cat's fur and eyesight. Just make sure to remove the skin and seeds!

5. Bananas

High in potassium, bananas are a great snack for cats as it helps support kidney and heart functions. Do keep in mind that bananas are high in carbohydrates and sugars so feed in moderation.

So, next time your cat asks for a little bit, if you are having one of these, go share a bite or two.
